AIP: NZ's strategic move to attract global investment

The revamped active investor plus visa: New Zealand's strategic move to attract global investment

New Zealand is set to revamp its Active Investor Plus (AIP) visa program, aiming to attract high-value investors and stimulate economic growth. Effective from April 1, 2025, the program will introduce two distinct investment categories:

Growth Category: Requires a minimum investment of NZD $5 million over a three-year period. Investments must be directed into direct investments in New Zealand businesses or approved managed funds. Applicants under this category are required to spend at least 21 days in New Zealand over the investment term.

Balanced Category: Requires a minimum investment of NZD $10 million over a five-year period. This category offers a broader range of acceptable investments, including direct investments, managed funds, bonds, property developments, and philanthropic contributions. Applicants must spend at least 105 days in New Zealand during the investment term; however, there are some variances on this.

These changes aim to simplify the investment process, broaden investment options, and reduce residency requirements, making New Zealand a more attractive destination for investors seeking residency opportunities.

Since these announced changes in February there has been a surge of interest from global investors, looking to invest in managed funds, and New Zealand businesses seeking growth capital.

For global investors looking to take advantage of the revamped AIP visa, the Syndex marketplace is the perfect place to start. Syndex identifies opportunities that are AIP-approved, providing a transparent and accessible way to find the right investment. By engaging with market issuers and clarifying the specific requirements, investors can take the first steps toward making a meaningful impact in New Zealand and securing their residency.
