It seems the humble avocado is never far from the news. Whether it’s being heralded as the new ‘superfood’, the astronomical rise in global demand, the drug cartels of Mexico, and not forgetting the midnight raids in Northland, no one can deny the popularity of this versatile, knobbly, green pear. In 2016 it was reported 90,000 additional Kiwis had discovered this fruit spiking demand and pushing prices sky-high. This year the orchards are still racing to keep up with it’s popularity. Smashed avo on toast has never been more popular!
